Why do we need FIBER OPTIC CABLE FAULT TRACKER?

With the fast development of internet, the fiber optic telecommunication has been gradually popularized everywhere. Especially when Covid-19 break out, more governments realized the importance of internet. Therefore, more and more governments starts speeding the developments of internet.

However, most fiber optic cables are laid underground or in the air, so the maintenance and management of a large number of fiber optic cables has become a problem. Especially when fiber optic cables damaged by in aging, natural destruction or man-made, it will seriously disturb the effective operation of the information society and affect the information security. So quickly checking and locating fiber optic cable faults, it is essential to repair and restore in the shortest possible time.

How to find fiber optic cable faults in ducts, on overhead poles or direct buried in the ground? A multiple functions fiber optic testing instruments can solve this problems. It is FIBER OPTIC CABLE FAULT TRACKER including 3 functions:

- Fiber optic cable fault locator, locating fiber optic fault points;

- Fiber optic cable identifier, identifying fiber optic cable;

- OTDR

What is a fiber optic fault locator?

Because of the particularity of fiber optic cable laying, the length of fiber optic cable and the actual geographical distance of optic cable is different. When fiber optic cable is damaged, an OTDR can only measure the length of the cable but cannot find and determine the geographic location of the optic cable fault. A fiber optic cable identifier can find the fault cable easily, but cannot locate the fiber optic fault points exactly.

A Fiber Optic Fault Locator is taking advantage of birefringence effect of optical fiber, it can detect the position of external disturbance signal to find and locate the fault point. The engineer only needs to perform non-destructive interference on the optical cable, and the instrument can automatically detect the interference point from the location of the fault point, and then gradually approach the fault point to do the same detection. After several tests, the fault point can be quickly found. It will greatly shorten the maintenance time, to avoid greater losses.

What is an optical cable identifier?

An Optical Cable Identifier (OCID) is an intelligent instrument designed for accurately finding and identifying the target optical cable laid in the manhole, tunnel, pipeline and pole aerial, based on the principle of the elastic effect of optical fiber, and converts the bending or shaking signal of optical cable into visual and audio signal through coherent demodulation of light. An optical cable identifier can quickly capture the vibration signal and display it through the waveform and sound when the target optical cable is bent or shaken, by using the new type of nondestructive identification technology for optical cable, so as to quickly locate the target optical cable.

Without fiber optical cable tracker, how could we identify a cable from thousands of chaotic cables?

1. Dragging cables one by one from a known place, But, it takes a lot of time, and the binding can’t be separated.

2. Using OTDR, But, bending optical cables may cause damage to optical cables.

3. By frozen liquid with OTDR, But, it is very difficult to operate frozen liquid and the liquid is potentially harmful to cables.

4. By radio frequency detection method, But, it can not detect the buried cables without metal reinforcement string.

5. By Fiber identifier, But, users have to peel the optical cable, which has a certain impact on the transmission of the line. If not peeling, only two ends of the tails can be found.

6. By red light source, But, it is unable to detect outdoor cables routing, and only for short indoor cables.

How to use an optical cable fault tracker?

With this test instrument, the line maintenance personnel only need to connect the cable to the

test end of the optical cable instrument, and then bend or shake the optical cable at the far end. Then the test instrument can quickly and accurately find the target optical cable through audio and video signals. Its powerful application function can greatly reduce the emergency repair of optical cable maintenance time, reduce the cost of construction and management, greatly improve the work efficiency.
